Social Services ITO

How does the ITO support assessors?

We support assessors in many ways.

Induction

We have an induction programme for all new assessors that includes training on the ITO’s systems and processes. We walk you through exactly what is  expected of all assessors.

How induction is carried out depends on the number of new assessors starting at the same time. If there are sufficient numbers, we will run a group workshop. If there is only one person, we will arrange a one-on-one programme.

Part of the induction process is known as Tuakana Teina. This is where new assessors are buddied with an experienced assessor. The new assessor observes the experienced assessor evaluating a trainee. The roles are then reversed and the experienced assessor observes the new assessor conducting a full assessment.

National office staff

Internal moderation also supports your development.  We use a peer moderation system where assessors moderate each others’ work. Moderation meetings provide a forum for you to discuss assessment methods and receive feedback from peers.

From time to time, we will run workshops for you to help develop skills in particular areas.
