How much does work-based learning cost and who pays?
There are two costs for your work-based learning programme.
1. Administration Fee - $112.50 (incl GST)
This fee is paid when you sign up for a work-based learning programme. The administration fee is non-refundable.
2. Cost per credit - $5.00 (incl GST) per credit
A fee of $5.00 per credit is usually charged at the beginning of every ‘cluster’ of assessment. Clusters are groupings of unit standards that are assessed within an agreed timeframe. Clusters varies according to each qualification.
The total cost for a qualification is based on the total number of credits of the qualification. For example, the National Diploma in Social Work at 286 credits will cost $1430.00, and the National Certificate in Youth Work at 106 credits will cost $530.00.
Because the government subsidises the cost of assessment, you do not pay any other costs. The ITO covers all costs for travel and assessor time. The $5.00 fee per credit also includes the NZQA per credit fee.
You and/or your employer are responsible for costs associated with any training that may be required to meet the requirements of the unit standards.
