Social Services ITO

What qualifications and experience are required?

We are always interested in talking with professionals suitably qualified to assess our social service qualifications – social work, youth work, community work, counselling, employment support, iwi/Māori social services, whānau/family and foster care. Generally, there is a higher demand for assessors for social work, youth work and counselling qualifications.

Industry knowledge and experience

You must provide evidence of industry credibility and experience for the qualifications you wish to assess. You will also need to provide evidence that you hold qualifications at or above the level of the qualification you will be assessing.

Unit Standard 4098

Registered assessors are required to hold unit standard 4098 - Use Standards to Assess Candidate Performance. This is a minimum assessor requirement across all ITOs. If you do not have this unit standard, you will be responsible for arranging and meeting the costs of this training.

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website has information on the education organisations that are accredited to deliver and assess unit standard 4098.

Criminal Convictions

To ensure client safety and credibility in the industry, you will be required to complete an Individuals Criminal Convictions Disclosure Form from the Ministry of Justice website. Having a criminal conviction will not automatically preclude you from being considered, but further information may be required. The ITO policy on criminal convictions is guided by the Social Work Registration Board’s policy on ‘fit and proper persons’ criteria to be a registered social worker. The Ministry of Justice website includes information about the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004. Please contact us if you need further advice.
